For 70 years, Alpina has led the way in engineering in Italy, creating infrastructures that blend technical excellence with timeless vision.

Established in Milan in 1954 as "Società Idroelettrica Alpina," our roots lie in pioneering hydraulic engineering. In our early years, we significantly contributed to Italy's energy infrastructure with major hydroelectric projects across Northern Italy. By the 1970s, Alpina expanded its focus to transport, structural, and civil engineering, delivering over 800 kilometers of highways, industrial complexes, and civil structures that transformed Italy's landscape.

Today, Alpina remains a trusted partner across sectors, combining decades of experience with a commitment to sustainable, future-ready solutions. Our projects, from energy infrastructure to civil works, are driven by the same innovative spirit that has defined Alpina from the start.

This long-standing legacy is our foundation, reminding us that engineering goes beyond technical achievement; it is a craft that serves society and future generations. As William Faulkner wisely observed, “History is a great mirror in which we can see our past and our future.” At Alpina, every project and every milestone contributes to a legacy we are proud to carry forward.

With years of shared experiences, our partners have fostered a company culture where collaboration and trust form the foundation of every endeavor.

In recent years, we have shifted towards a participatory management model,
encouraging everyone in the company to contribute to the decision-making process.

Central to this approach is our coaching and generative leadership program, a journey we began in 2017 to promote personal growth and professional development. Through individual coaching, career development, and team-building exercises, we empower our team members to cultivate their leadership skills and unlock their potential.

The program emphasizes open communication, respect for diversity, and shared responsibility, aiming to nurture future leaders from within. Additionally, we offer confidential support services like Alpina-Care, where employees can seek guidance in a safe, supportive environment, recognizing that vulnerability is also part of growth.

Our commitment to community goes beyond our offices with Settala 70, our guesthouse in Milan. Located in a historic 1930s building, Settala 70 offers a unique space for our team and collaborators to stay, combining convenience with community. The guesthouse reflects our people-first philosophy, as Alpina subsidizes part of the rent, making it accessible and affordable for team members.

Additionally, the rent we pay directly supports the Sisters of Mother Rubatto, funding development projects in Ethiopia and supporting those in need. This initiative not only provides our employees with a serene place to stay but also fosters a sense of social responsibility and collective purpose within the company.

This openness extends to our approach to diversity, with team members from Russia, China, Afghanistan, Mali, and the Ivory Coast bringing unique perspectives and enriching our environment. We also prioritize work-life balance, with remote work opportunities and a flexible, inclusive workspace that promotes individual well-being.

In 2023 alone, our team completed over 800 hours of training and secured industry-leading certifications, including ENVISION and Building Information Modeling (BIM) credentials, preparing us for the challenges of tomorrow.

A FUTURE OF RESPONSIBILITY AND GROWTH

Alpina’s vision extends far beyond engineering. We are committed to fostering sustainable growth with an emphasis on social responsibility, demonstrated by projects such as our work in Nungwi, Zanzibar. There, Alpina is helping develop essential water infrastructure and supporting educational facilities to enhance the local community’s quality of life. These initiatives embody our belief in solidarity and reflect our dedication to contributing positively to the world.

Alpina has achieved impressive growth in recent years, doubling our revenue in just five years and expanding to a team of 120 professionals from varied backgrounds, including engineers, geologists, architects, and designers.

This growth has been powered by our participatory management approach, which ensures every team member has a voice and a stake in our collective success.

To support this growth, we’ve implemented advanced resource management tools and an enhanced project management system, ensuring Alpina remains agile and sustainable even as we scale. As John C. Maxwell said, “The secret of growth is that change is constant.” By embracing change, empowering our people, and maintaining a commitment to ethical, sustainable practices, Alpina is poised to meet the needs of future generations and continue our legacy of engineering excellence.
