Overview

The Isola Serafini hydroelectric plant, located in the Muncipality of Monticelli d’Ongina (PC), uses the waters of the Po River in the locality of Isola Serafini by means of a gate structure dam with 11 openings of 30 m each, closed with lift gates on trolleys.

The dam has a crest length of 362 m with a normal retention level of 41.50 m above sea level, a level that makes it possible for the reservoir to avoid flooding the floodplains. The hydroelectric plant consists of a dam, a power plant supplied by a short inflow channel, a tailrace canal and a navigation lock built alongside the power plant.

The power plant is outfitted with four vertical Kaplan turbines that supply an installed power capacity of 82 MW. These units use a diverted flow of up to 1000 m³ per second with a variable waterfall of between 3.5 and 7 m for an annual hydroelectric production of 484 GWh/year.
