Overview

The design concerned the works to protect villages and infrastructures in the territory of Valfurva from the active “Ruinon” landslide. The project includes the following main works:

Hydraulic by-pass: this tunnel allows the Frodolfo river by-pass in case of landslide collapse or during flood events (polycentric section, length of about 2.450 m and 5% slope). The Frodolfo river is closed by a weir (5 m high, 15 m wide, regulated by two sluice gates). In addition there is a lateral intake that allows the deviation of water into the by-pass.

Road by-pass: this tunnel allows the deviation of the “S.S. 300 del Gavia” road to underpass the landslide. The two lane road tunnel is 2.665 m long, its slope is 6,9%. The tunnel is equipped with a small safety tunnel under the road pavement for pedestrian escape purpose, a ventilation system, two technical building.

Access roads to allow the maintenance operation at the weir and at the hydraulic tunnel outlet work.
